Hola, Barcelona! Tako’s First Day in Spain

“Hola, Barcelona! Tako’s First Day in Spain”

If you had asked me recently where I most wanted to travel, I would have answered without hesitation - Spain. For a long time, this country, with its lively streets, rich art, history, and culture, has held the first place on my “bucket list.” I feel like we are somehow similar. They say Basques and Georgians are related peoples… Well, I do not know how true that is, but I do know that these people truly inspire a special admiration in me.

Anyway, I will not go on too long and will just tell you that as soon as my mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa made their New Year donations to my bank account, I immediately decided that the next place I would explore would be Barcelona. I bought the tickets spontaneously. I have a break from university in February. I thought a trip would be the perfect way to end my holidays. After the previous semester, I definitely deserved some rest. I also got lucky with the weather. The forecast promises warm and sunny days on the streets of Barcelona over the next few days.

In short, I bought the tickets in January. And today I arrived in Barcelona. Yes, you heard that right. I am writing this blog from the Onefam Sants hostel. Now I will tell you how I traveled and what my first day in Spain was like.

On the Road

My flight was from Kutaisi. So I woke up at 8:00 in the morning to catch a bus to the airport. I do not like waking up early, but before a flight, I am always so excited that I cannot really sleep anyway. This time was no different. I tossed and turned all night. My mom drove me to the bus station. I showed my ticket to the attendant and took my seat.

I put on my headphones, played the playlist I had specially made for Barcelona, and pulled my sleep mask down over my eyes. I tried to fall asleep during the ride. Then I remembered that I had forgotten to buy a roaming internet. Fortunately, it was not too late. The last time I was in Budapest, I used mobineX mobile internet. The MBs lasted me the whole trip. So this time I opened the app again to look at internet packages for Spain.

I noticed something new in the app. They have added a new feature - an AI assistant that recommends the best package based on your needs. I decided to trust the AI assistant’s recommendation. I am in Spain only for three days. According to its suggestion, I bought a 3GB package. I can tell you that I have not even used 1GB yet.

For the rest of the trip to the airport, I watched the new season of Bridgerton. Benedict is definitely my favorite Bridgerton. I would gladly take him with me as a travel companion to Barcelona. In my opinion, we would have had a lot of fun.

In Kutaisi, I had a small snack. I ate a sandwich my mom had made, together with coffee. Next time I will try to bring coffee with me in a thermos. I recommend the same to you.

The flight from Kutaisi to Barcelona took about five hours. By 4:30, I was already in my dream destination. And no, I was not tired. I was still full of energy. Through the mobineX app, I called my family and told them I had arrived safely.

Hola, Barcelona!

At El Prat Airport, the first thing I did was buy a travel pass. The pass costs €13 and allows you to travel 10 times by train, bus, or tram. I took the train toward my hostel. By around six o’clock, I was already at the Onefam Sants hostel, which I had booked in advance.

Onefam Sants is an ideal option for young travelers who want to save money and enjoy meeting people. In a hostel, you can get to know other travelers. In the evenings, there is a free dinner in the common area, which gives everyone the chance to socialize. I really wanted to stay and take part in that ritual, but I simply did not have enough time. I am here only for three days. So instead, I bought a baguette, cheese, and ham from a nearby shop. All of it cost less than €5. I enjoyed my meal and then headed out to explore the streets of Barcelona.

Sunset in Barcelona

From Sants, I simply walked down the street. Wandering around is my favorite part of traveling. Everything around me seemed magical, and I wanted to photograph everything. That is exactly what I did. I will share the pictures later, do not worry.

I saw the shopping center Arenas de Barcelona, the huge Venetian towers called Torres Venecianes, and most importantly, the Magic Fountain. If you did not know, I will tell you that this is one of the most breathtaking sights I have ever seen. I sat down nearby at Palau Nacional and watched the dancing fountain set to music. I felt incredibly happy because I had done it - I had fulfilled my dream and was freely walking through the streets of Barcelona.

Around eleven, I started heading back toward the hostel. Along the way, I passed bars and café-restaurants everywhere. There was joy and liveliness all around. You can really feel that people here know how to enjoy life. I went into one of the bars, had a pint of beer, and then returned to the hostel.

Good Night

When I returned to the hostel, dinner had already finished. However, there were still a few guests sitting around the reception area, chatting with each other. Two boys caught my attention. They had a huge map spread out and were loudly discussing something. I do not know whether it was the beer or the boldness that comes with being in a foreign country, but I went up to them and asked what they were talking about.

They explained that they were planning to go hiking. That is how I met Florian and Georg. Both are students at the Free University of Berlin. They study architecture. I think I was quite lucky, because I found architects to guide me around. Tomorrow I am planning to go with them to Gaudí’s Park.

After that, we talked for a long time. I told them about Georgia. Neither of them has been there, and both of them became very curious about it. Who knows, maybe one day I will be the one guiding them there.

I cannot wait for tomorrow morning. I will definitely tell you about tomorrow’s adventures too. But for now, good night.
